Taxonomy
Alcedinidae is a family in the Order Coraciiformes.
This family can be split into three subfamilies1:
- Alcedininae, which includes Alcedo, Ceyx and Ispidina
- Cerylinae, which includes Megaceryle, Chloroceryle, and Ceryle
- Daceloninae, which includes the remaining genera.
Some authorities recognise these taxa as three separate families (see this discussion).
