Was previously Halcyon winchelli The Sibley-Monroe spelling of the scientific name (Todirhamphus winchelli) is incorrect. Clements and Howard & Moore both use Todiramphus winchelli. More details in this discussion

There are 5 subspecies^[1]:

• T. w. nigrorum:

• Bohol, Cebu, Negros, Samar, Siquijor, Leyte, Biliran

• T. w. nesydrionetes:

• Central Philippines (Romblon, Sibuyan and Tablas)

• T. w. mindanensis:

• Mindanao (ssouthern Philippines)

• T. w. winchelli:

• Basilan (southern Philippines)

• T. w. alfredi:

• Sulu Archipelago (Bongao, Jolo, Papahag and Tawitawi)

Habitat

Moist lowland forests.
