Genus: Caprimulgus
Description
Almost 50 species of Nightjar; worldwide distribution.
Taxonomy
Caprimulgus is a genus in the family Caprimulgidae.
As formerly defined, this genus was not a natural entity, as new world members and old world members are not each others closests relatives. So new world members have been assigned to other genera (Antrostomus, Hydropsalis, Nyctidromus, Nyctipolus and Setopagis, Systellura).
Brown Nightjar and Collared Nightjar have been included in this genus.
