Caprimulgus binotatus
Identification
Sexually monomorphic. Smallish, dark rainforest Nightjar. Dark brown with buff and chestnut mottling. No collar on hind neck. Small, bright white spots on the sides of the neck. Unique - for African Nightjars - "tented" tail. No white in either the wings or tail in flight.
Distribution
Africa. Liberia ( Mt. Nimba ), southern Ivory Coast, southern Ghana, southern and western Cameroon, northern Gabon, northern Congo, southern Central African Republic, central Democratic Republic of Congo
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
It is often placed in genus Caprimulgus.
Habitat
Lowland, open canopy primary rainforest with a thick understory.
Behaviour
Roosts above ground, usually in loops in lianas.
