Genus: Hydropsalis
Description
This genus contains South American species of Nightjar.
Taxonomy
Hydropsalis is a genus in the family Caprimulgidae. A proposal for the SACC wanted to make this a much larger genus by adding all members of genera Uropsalis, Eleothreptus, Nyctidromus, Macropsalis, Nyctiprogne, Lurocalis, and five species from Caprimulgus (Band-winged Nightjar, Roraiman Nightjar, Little Nightjar, Scrub Nightjar, and Blackish Nightjar). This did not pass, and instead, some of these genera have been further split.
Spot-tailed Nightjar was formerly included in this genus.
