Genus: Caprimulgus
Description
Over 50 species of Nightjar; worldwide distribution.
Taxonomy
Caprimulgus is a genus in the family Caprimulgidae. As currently defined, this genus is not a natural entity, as new world members and old world members are not each others closests relatives. One likely solution is to only include old world members in this genus, and assign new world members to other genera: Antrostomus and Antiurus have been used in the past, but a manuscript seems to propose Antrostomus and Hydropsalis.
