Overview
On the coast of the Black Sea close to the city of Odessa, this site is the former delta of the Tiligul river and a haven for a variety of wetland birds.
The habitats include freshwater streams and brackish and saltwater lagoons, reed islands and saltmarsh with associated areas of steppe scrub.

Notable Species
Glossy Ibis and Squacco Heron breed as well as Common Tern and Gull-billed Tern.
Passage birds include a few White Pelican and Great White Egret in important numbers, Little Gull and Slender-billed Gull, all three marsh terns and various waders.
The area also holds significant numbers of Greater White-fronted Goose in winter and Red-breasted Goose has been seen occasionally.
The delta has a good range of passerines including Crested Lark and Calandra Lark, Citrine Wagtail and Tawny Pipit with Red-breasted Flycatcher, European Pied Flycatcher and Collared Flycatcher on passage.
Lesser Kestrel, Red-footed Falcon, European Bee-eater and European Roller hunt insects over the more open, drier habitats.

Tiligul Liman is situated about 35km east of Odessa between the Odessa-Nikolaev road and the coast. The city has a wide range of accommodation and car-hire facilities. There are also good air connections with the rest of Europe and Odessa can also be reached by boat from Istanbul.
