Notable Species

The capital of Tunisia has Common Swift, Pallid Swift and Little Swift breeding in the Cathedral and various passerines in Belvedere Park but the main birding attraction of the city is Tunis Lake.

Although the northern shores are now much degraded the southern half still has excellent wetland birds during passage periods and in winter. It is most famous for wintering Greater Flamingo but there are also Black-necked Grebe, egrets, waders including Pied Avocet, Kentish Plover and Little Stint and gulls including Slender-billed Gull and terns.
