Overview

Kapelludden is on the east coast of Oland opposite Borgholm and has shallow bays and coastal meadows.

Birds

Notable Species

The area is important for both breeding and passage birds. Around 330 species have been recorded in total including many rarities. Red-breasted Goose is recorded almost annually.

Greylag Goose, Montagu's Harrier, Corn Crake and Common Crane are among the birds present in summer along with Pied Avocet, Black-tailed Godwit and Caspian Tern. Passerine breeders include Barred Warbler and Marsh Warbler.

A range of waterfowl, raptors and waders occurs on passage and White-tailed Eagle and Hen Harrier hunt the area in winter, sometimes joined by Peregrine Falcon and Gyr Falcon.
