History and Use
Auchengate Camp, Dundonald Camp, RAF Dundonald, and HMS Dundonald are all names for the same location. It began as Auchengate before WW2 as an Army installation. Then became associated with the Air Force and changed its name to RAF Dundonald and with the advent of the Navy coming into the picture changed it's designation to HMS Dundonald[1]. It was used for various training pursuits over that time and still retains a military connection to more modern times as it has been mentioned as a site for facilities to help meet the needs of returning service people.
