Identification
Black, white vent, wing patch, underside of the tail, thick yellow eye ring, legs and beak, grey/white flecking on its belly. It can raise the feathers on its forehead into a dramatic crest.
Distribution
This bird ranges only on Java and Bali.
Taxonomy
This species has been involved in several rounds of splitting, and as such, name usage is somewhat confused. White-vented Myna (Acridotheres javanicus) and Pale-bellied Myna (Acridotheres cinereus) used to be together under the name of Pale-bellied Myna. Prior to that, both were included in Acridotheres grandis under the name of White-vented Myna; however, Acridotheres grandis is currently used for Great Myna which is, however, sometimes called White-vented Myna.
Habitat
All - from city to fields.
Behaviour
It is omnivorous.
It roosts in colonies and is abundantly successful in a variety of habitats.
It is considered a pest by many.
