23.5–26 cm
Male

  • Green head, upper breast and back
  • Throat and face black
  • Yellow bill
  • Eye-ring pale blue, more prominent in front of and behind the eye
  • Belly yellow, offset from breast by narrow to inconspicuous white band
  • Undertail white, barred black, but with large white subterminal bands on each feather
  • Upperside of tail green with bluish sheen
  • Wing coverts with black and white vermiculations

  • Brown head, upper breast and back
  • Rufous upper tail
  • Yellow belly
  • Mostly yellow bill
  • Pale eye-ring wider behind and in front of the eye

Similar species

Similar species with overlapping range differ in having full black hood in the male (Black-headed Trogon) or by having yellow eye-rings (Gartered Trogon).
