Aternative Name: Sula Golden-Bulbul

Hypsipetes longirostris

Alophoixus longirostris; Thapsinillas longirostris
Includes: Banggai Golden-Bulbul

Endemic to Sula Islands (Mangoli, Taliabu, Sulabes), Moluccas, Indonesia.

This species was split from Northern Golden Bulbul. Golden Bulbul included this and other related taxa like Buru Golden Bulbul and Seram Golden Bulbul. Both Clements and IOC place this species in the genus Hypsipetes [1],[2]; Howard and Moore [3] and HBW place it in Thapsinillas [4].

Subspecies harterti may be split as "Banggai Golden-Bulbul", H. harterti and subspecies longirostris as "Sula Golden-Bulbul", H. longirostris (strict sense).

Taxa we include here which Clements recognises [1]:

  • H. l. harterti: "Banggai Golden-Bulbul". Banggai Islands (Peleng, Banggai, Labobo and Banda)
  • H. l. longirostris: Sula Islands (Taliabu, Mangole and Sanana)
