Stripe-breasted Wren - BirdForum Opus

Identification

Length 13 cm (5 in). Rufous back, barred tail and wings, strong black eyestripe contrasting with white supercilliary. The only wren in its range with a heavily streaked (black and white) throat and beast.

Distribution

Caribbean Slope in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Panama.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species1.

Was formerly placed in genus Thryothorus like all other species of the genus Cantorchilus.

Habitat

Common in moist lowland forests to 1000m

Behaviour

Usually in foraging pairs in the understory of mature wet forests.
