Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, French Guiana, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Venezuela, and possibly Ecuador.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species1.
This species was formerly included in the genus Caprimulgus.
Habitat
Dry savanna and seasonally wet or flooded lowland grassland.
