Overview

This Ramsar Site is an area of coastal meadows with some patches of scrub and a stretch of sandy shoreline bordering shallow seas.

Birds

Notable Species

An important area for breeding marshland birds such as Pied Avocet and Black-tailed Godwit, Little Gull, and sometimes also Kentish Plover at the northernmost limits of its range. Breeding duck include Gadwall, Greater Scaup and Common Eider.

Also provides ideal habitat for passage waders and waterfowl. White-tailed Eagle and Golden Eagle can be seen in small numbers in winter.

Rarities

Terek Sandpiper has been seen and in May 1992 the first Crab Plover for Europe was recorded here.

Access and Facilities

Sodviken is on the east coast in the north of A-land and can be reached by road east from Fora church to Husvalla, or the road at Gamla Gastgivaregarden in Sodvik.
