Identification
10 cm.
A small flycatcher distinguished from most other species by its pale iris and short, broad, downwards "bent" bill.
Similar species
Southern Bentbill has a range either adjacent to or overlapping in Panama
Distribution
Central and South America:
Central America: Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama; in Panama only known from the western half of Bocas del Toro and westernmost Chiriqui.
South America: found only in Colombia (in NW Antioquia) where it may be known only from a single record.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Edge, gaps, and the understory of humid forests. Seems to prefer relatively open forest.
Behaviour
Vocalisation
Song: a short, buzzy trill.
Food is mainly insects and other invertebrates.
