Identification
16·7–18·4 cm (6½-7¼ in)
Male - green-bodied, yellow head, black face and throat, blue moustachial line.
Female - green head, blue throat with yellow boarder.
Young - like female but without the blue throat patch.
Distribution
The Blue-winged Leafbird is a common resident breeder in southern India and Sri Lanka.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
It was formerly included in Blue-winged Leafbird.
They were earlier classified along with the bulbuls, but unlike the bulbuls, the sexes differ.
Habitat
Their habitat is open forest, forest edges, gardens, roadside trees and more open woodland at 1500 meters.
Behaviour
Breeding
They build the nest in a tree, laying 2-3 eggs.
Diet
They have a varied diet, consisting of insects, including ants and caterpillars fruit and nectar.
Vocalisation
The call of this Leafbird like other Leafbirds consists of a rich mixture of imitations of the calls of various other species of bird.
