L. 16.5 cm (6.5-8.25 in)
Wt. 47-48 g (1.6 oz)

  • Grey-brown body
  • Long and square tail edged with white
  • Red underwing

Distribution

Semiarid southwestern United States to northwestern Costa Rica.

Habitat

Scrub and cultivation.

On a cold day (or night) will group together in a pyramid to keep each other warm

Diet

Includes grass seeds.

Breeding

The flimsy twig nest is built 1-8 m high in a tree, often a thorny species, and 2 white eggs are laid.
