Overview
To the north of the Gargano peninsula on the Adriatic coast of Italy, the three islands that form this group are important for breeding seabirds and attract many migrants.
The largest island, San Domino, has typical Mediterranean maquis and areas of Aleppo Pine woodland. The smaller islands, San Nicola and the uninhabited Capraia, are rockier with much less vegetation.
Birds
Notable Species
Cory's Shearwater and Yelkouan Shearwater breed in large numbers along with Yellow-legged Gull and one or two pairs of Peregrine Falcon.
Pallid Swift also breeds. Eleonora's Falcon formerly bred but now occurs only on passage as well as Western Honey Buzzard and Western Marsh Harrier with small numbers of other raptors. Passerine migrants include flycatchers, warblers and shrikes.

These islands are becoming increasingly popular with tourists and San Nicola can be reached by ferry from Termoli and Rodi Garganico.
There are also regular boats between San Nicola and San Domino. April to mid-June is the best time to visit with the widest range of birds present.
