Identification

Length: 36–41
Male

  • Whitish crown
  • Maroon upperparts
  • Green sheen on neck, mantle and back
  • Slate rump and uppertail coverts
  • Black tail and flight feathers
  • Red eye ring and base of bill

Female has a greyer crown

Distribution

Asia: found from southern Tibet to eastern India, Myanmar, Thailand and Hainan Island (southern China)

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Forest, bamboo, agricultural fields and mangroves. Recorded from sea level up to 1600 m.
