Identification

9" (23cm) A small, dark Nighthawk. Males show white tips to outer rectrices; females are buffy. Photo is of a male.

Distribution

Endemic to Costa Rica and Panama.

Taxonomy

Monotypic.
It has recently been suggested that this species should be transferred to the genus Antrostomus.

Habitat

Extreme upper elevations including Paramo habitat from 1500 to 1800 m.

Behaviour

Active and calling at dusk, often perches about 2 metres above ground between foraging spurts.
