Identification
21 cm

Juveniles: paler, lacks red on head
Distribution
Central and South America: found in south-east Mexico to Panama and western Colombia.
Taxonomy
This species is sometimes placed in genus Pionopsitta.
Subspecies[1]
There are 2 subspecies:
- P. h. haematotis:
- P. h. coccinicollaris:
There seems to be a gap in central Panama between the two subspecies.
Rose-faced Parrot has been split from Brown-hooded Parrot.
Habitat
Resident throughout the Caribbean lowlands and in Pacific lowlands breeding locally to ca.5250ft on adjacent mountain slopes,largely withdrawing to lower elevations following breeding.
Fairly common in partly or entirely forested districts.
Behaviour
Breeding
It nests in an unlined tree cavity and the eggs are white.
Diet
The diet includes fruit and seeds.
