South America: Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, to southern Brazil, Paraguay, and northern Argentina.

Humid open woodland, forest edges, clearings and roadsides, montane forest to 1200 m.

It builds a frail dish-shaped twiggy nest. The clutch consists of 2 white eggs.
