Identification

8–10·2 cm (3-4 in)

  • Shiny black crown and head sides
  • White throat
  • Yellowish-olive upperparts

Distribution

Central and South America
Central America: Caribbean slope of Costa Rica, Panama
South America: Colombia, north-western Venezuela, western Ecuador

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

They are found in the canopy and edges of moist forests, secondary growth, plantations, clearings and pastures.

Behaviour

Diet

They eat a variety of insects and bugs, including wasps, ants and flies.

Breeding

They build an untidy pouch nest.
