Overview

In the Snowdonia National Park and overlooking the Mawddach Estuary, this reserve consists of Sessile Oak and birch woodland interspersed with heathy glades. A stream, flowing through a gorge forms one border of the reserve.

Birds

Notable Species

Breeding birds of the woodlands include all three British woodpeckers, Common Buzzard and Northern Raven, Common Redstart, Pied Flycatcher and Wood Warbler. Common Dipper and Grey Wagtail nest along the stream.

The reserve can be reached via a public footpath from the A496 Barmouth to Dolgellau road, starting close to the tollbridge road which crosses the estuary to Penmaenpool. Here the RSPB and North Wales Naturalist's Trust run an information centre.
