Sporophila bouvronides

Identification

Male: upperside mostly black with rump pale grey, white malar stripe, and white primary patch; underside mostly white with throat black and upper breast mottled black and white. Bare parts black.
Young male is similar but with more grey on undersides and small white dots on front of head.
Female greyish to olive on upperside, white to pale buff on underside, two-toned bill (dark upper and pale flesh-colored lower mandible).

Colombia south to Peru and east to Trinidad, Tobago, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, and Brazil. Migratory, breeding in north and wintering in most of the Amazon area.

Taxonomy

Some sources place this species as a monotypic species, others recognize both bouvronides from most of the range and restricta from lower Magdalena Valley in Colombia[1].
