Overview
Bosque de Tlalpan is a city park at the south end of Mexico City.
Birds
Notable Species
The center of the park is a wooded valley that in winter hosts mixed flocks of migrants from higher latitudes and elevations. Prominent species include Hepatic Tanager, the Abeille's race of Bullock's Oriole, Slate-throated Redstart, and Gray Silky Flycatcher. The park's edges rise to higher elevations and preserve low oak scrub with some desert plants such as agaves. Hooded Yellowthroat, Blue Mockingbird, and Rufous-capped Brush Finch have been reported from these areas but are elusive outside the breeding season. Berylline and Broad-billed Hummingbirds are present, with the latter especially numerous.

Site Information
History and Use
The park's northeast corner contains the overgrown minor Aztec pyramid of Tenantongo. The nearby site of Cuicuilco has much older and more impressive pre-Hispanic ruins.

Access and Facilities
The park is located off of Avenida Insurgentes Sur, 14 km south of the center of Mexico City. (To reach this site by public transit, take a bus marked "Cuicuilco" from Metro: Universidad and get off just past the sign for "Parque Ecologico de Cuicuilco." The Cuicuilco park, while notable for its ancient ruins, has much less bird habitat.) Take a right on the Camina de Santa Teresa (signed for "Bosque de Tlalpan") and walk 800 m; the park entrance and lot is on your left.
