July Moths (1 Viewer)

Circa 8-9 species with an escape rare!
Festoon (2nd foy), Black Arches(NFY),
Common Rustic(NFY), Carcina quercana, Dunbar, Riband Wave, Most Carpet x6🤣
Common Carpet (NFY)….now the drum roll…gingerly opening the parasol (upside down) revealed c4 Least Carpets within and a small white Noctuid with a brown bar (or thereabouts), moving at pace towards me before flying out!
It looked familiar from Lewingtons, albeit very distinctively contrastly marked, I knew immediately it was a lifer!
Checking the book after it had flown, showed it to have been either a Silver Hook or a Silver Barred, unless of course there’s another sp from elsewhere….dunno?
Can't see it mentioned in your post, so not sure if you're aware, but the last one is Ruddy Streak (Tachystola acroxantha). I get them occasionally coming in through the window of my flat. Photo attached from last summer

The new micro English names do away with Ruddy Streak - it is now Australian Orange-tip !! I'm sticking to using scientific names for nearly all micros.
Has anyone had a Beautiful Twitcher?

Just circa 6 of 12….with highlights being two (nfy) and a “Lifer”….that didn’t get away!
Another Festoon, Single-dotted Wave (NFY),5 Least Carpet, Brown China-mark, 2 Ribbon Wave, Dingy Footman and drum roll….Plumed Fan-Foot, a recent colonist.

A few goodies over the past few nights. Cloaked Minor & Carpet (only my third), Dingy Footman & Shell, Burnished Brass & Fan-foot all made their 2024 debuts. Other highlights included Poplar Hawk-moth, Buff-tip and lots of Common Footman & Marbled Beauties. Sexton Beetle added variety. Also a Pug, I'm thinking Grey.

My catches are still abysmally low v prior years in both locations that I trap in. As others seem to be getting catches, I am starting to wonder if it my homemade trap that the moths are escaping from. Would appreciate any info on any shop (nhbs, als) bought traps that people have success with as might be time to invest. Thanks.

Seven of 15 last night/am to include 3 lifers and a NFY- c7 Riband wave, 3 Least Carpet,
Yellow Shell, Small Dusty Wave then lifers-
Dwarf Cream Wave, Clancy’s Rustic and Udea fulvalis

Walking my local Sunday patch earlier I could see a movement of bright colour flying in the mid-distance. As I got closer it was what I suspected- my first Jersey Tiger of the year. A typical form with red underwings (get quite a few with yellow locally). It was nearly a goner though as a Whitethroat flew up out of a bramble patch attempting to snatch it. The moth managed to move just out of beak's way & my appearance thwarted a second attempt by the Whitethroat.

I’ve yet to see my first this year A, well done on the rescue mission.👍

Any pics of the Least Carpet(s) Ken? A species I am yet to see!
