June Moths (2 Viewers)

Went to a local nature reserve in west London at 5 am to see what the single trap had caught. Two weeks ago the trap in this position had zilch. It had been a mild, overcast night & the trap was buzzing. Probably about 150+ moths in it with 86 species identified so far with a few more micros to be determined.

C. culmella was by far the most numerous with over 30. Common Footman + Heart & Dart were the most numerous macros with 12 individuals each. Glamour was provided by Poplar Hawkmoth, Rosy Footman, a couple of Black Arches & Common Emeralds & a Blue-bordered Carpet.

Smartest micros were a couple of Gold Triangles, Rose Tabby & a very smart Acrobasis repandana.

Pretty much as last night - Common Footmen, Riband Waves and Bee Moths dominating. A Smoky Wainscott, a small emerald, a broad yellow underwing the pick of the odds.

Looks like 14 lifers and 23 NFY, 157 species total last night. It was really good night, and stayed up way more than I should have. Finally nabbed an American Dagger, most common moth for my state I hadn't seen.

Correct ID's. Have seen a few photos recently of Dunbars, so they are about.

Well that's June done with, a pretty lean month, low on numbers & variety. I've been a bit lazy posting, but here's a few bits & pieces to get up to date before July kicks in.

Recycling day today, food bin was a bit whiffy, so it's had Milton sitting in it all day. Went to poor it down the drain this afternoon and what's that hiding behind the down-pipe...? Garden tick! Maybe June wasn't quite as lame as I thought!
