• Green overall plumage
• Golden-yellow nape
• Red speculum
• Dark grey bill and feet

Distribution

Central America: found from southern Mexico south to northern Costa Rica.

Taxonomy

Subspecies

Clements recognizes these subspecies[1]:

• A. a. auropalliata:

Pacific slope of southern Mexico (Oaxaca) south to northwestern Costa Rica

• A. a. caribaea:

• Bay Islands off Honduras (Isla Barbareta and Isla Guanaja)

• A. a. parvipes:

• Coastal north-eastern Honduras to north-eastern Nicaragua

Habitat

Dryish woodland, scrub and savannas.

Behaviour

Diet

The diet includes seeds, and also nuts, berries, and fruit.
