Piculus leucolaemus

Identification

Distribution

Colombia and Ecuador to Peru, Bolivia and Brazil.

Taxonomy

This species is monotypic.[1] The taxonomic situation for this species is a little complicated, because in previous times, at least Lita Woodpecker, Stripe-cheeked Woodpecker, and Rufous-winged Woodpecker have all been lumped with the current species. The scíentific name of the combined species was Piculus leucolaemus just like this one, but the English name was Rufous-winged Woodpecker. The split of Lita Woodpecker from White-throated Woodpecker is not recognized by all world-wide checklists.

Habitat

Moist lowland forests.
