Description
A genus of Woodpeckers from South America with some species found though Central America to Mexico.
They share several characters: rufous underwings, Dryocopus-like crest, yellow "bridal" mark on face and raspy voice with no rapid rattle.

Golden-olive Woodpecker, Gray-crowned Woodpecker, and Crimson-mantled Woodpecker have been transferred to genus Colaptes due to molecular data.
