White-spotted Wattle-eye - BirdForum Opus

Platysteira tonsa

Identification

Length 9 cm. Lilac eye wattles and small white spots behind the eyes, black bill, legs and feet.

Male: Glossy black upperparts with a white rump, throat and collar. It has a broad black breast band and white belly.

Female: Slate-grey head (crown darker than cheeks), white malar stripe, chestnut throat, breast and upperparts, and white belly.

Distribution

Cameroon, Central African Republic, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, and Nigeria.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

This species is placed in the genus Dyaphorophyia by some authorities.

Habitat

Closed-canopy forest.

Vocalisation

Includes a chee twee chee whistle and a pee dunk call note.
