Endemic to interior of northeast Brazil from south Maranhão east across Piauí, Ceará, Paraíba and Pernambuco, south to Alagoas, Bahia and northeast Minas Gerais.
A vulnerable species with probably fewer than 10,000 birds split in three subpopulations.
