Identification

20cm. Olive-grey upperparts, whitish underparts, white supercilium, white crescent below the eye, dark eyestripe and moustachial stripe. Sexes are similar.

Distribution

Central and South India and Sri Lanka.

Taxonomy

Two subspecies are recognized:[1]

  • P. l. luteolus - Coastal south peninsular India
  • P. l. insulae - Lowlands, Sri Lanka

Habitat

Dry scrub and woodland edges.

Behaviour

  • Diet: Includes fruit, nectar and insects.
  • Breeding: It builds its nest in a tree; 2 eggs are laid.
