Identification
A very large thrush:
- Black plumage
- Yellow to orange bill
- Black legs
- Lacks eye-ring (compared to Eurasian Blackbird)
Females are blackish-brown with a duskier bill.
Distribution
From western Pakistan and northern India east to Sikkim and southeast Tibet. Probably occurs also in Nepal.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
Formerly regarded conspecific with Eurasian Blackbird.
Habitat
Juniper scrub on grassy, rocky slopes and alpine meadows, winters in shrubs or stands of juniper.
Behaviour
Wild and wary, only sometimes confiding.
