Identification
27.5 - 30cm (10¾-11¾ in). In size between Giant Babax and Chinese Babax.
- Dull rufous-streaked, much more uniformly than Chinese Babax
- Greyish-throat
Distribution
Found in a small area in eastern Tibet and adjacent Qinghai (China). May occur in Arunachal Pradesh (India).
Restricted-range species, very little known about exact range and population.
Taxonomy
Clements now places this species in the genus Ianthocincla, Gill and Donsker in Babax.
Subspecies
Two subspecies recognized[1]:
- P. k. koslowi in the mountains of south-central China (south Qinghai, northwest Sichuan, est Tibet)
- P. k. yuquensis in southeast Tibet
Habitat
Juniper forest and scrub, mixed fir and juniper forest and scrub bordering agricultural land. Between 3650m and 4500m.
Behaviour
Diet
No information about diet.
Observed in pairs or small groups, feeding on the ground and in low vegetation. Rather wary.
Breeding
Breeding season from May to July. The nest is placed low in conifers. Lays 3 - 4 eggs. Co-operative breeder.

Resident species.
