Genus: Babax
Description
This genus would contain the three Babax from China and the Himalayas. They are superficially reminiscent of the Turdoides-Babblers as they have a streaky brown, buff and grey plumage and a rather long, decurved bill. The bill also resembles that of the Scimitar-Babblers of the genus Pomatorhinus.
The song of the three species is a simple series of whistles.
Taxonomy
Babax is a genus in the family Leiothrichidae.
It was formerly included in the family Timaliidae.
Clements now includes all three species in the genus Ianthocincla, Dickinson in Garrulax (where they are now placed in the Opus).
