- Broad black streaks on white to buffy breast.
Distribution
Central and South America:
Central America: found in Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama
South America: Colombia and Ecuador
Taxonomy
Subspecies
Five subspecies are recognized:
- H. p. pallidior:
- Colombia (lower Cauca, upper Sinú and Magdalena valleys)
- H. p. periophthalmicus:
- Pacific coast of western Colombia and north-western Ecuador
- H. p. perspicillatus:
- H. p. intermedius:
- H. p. lizanoi:
- Pacific slope of south-western Costa Rica
Habitat
Moist lowland forests, often in spots with less undergrowth.
Behaviour
Less shy when singing then otherwise, but difficult to see none-the-less due to a song that doesn't allow direction detection (ventriloquial).
Diet
Hops and runs on the ground and on logs. There is little information about their diet, but it is thought to be mostly arthropods.
