Identification

Similar species

Very similar to Red-rumped Swallow but very dark with almost unstreaked dark rufous underparts and rump. Also short tail-streamers.

Distribution

Endemic to Sri Lanka.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species.
It was formerly included in Red-rumped Swallow.

Habitat

Found in various habitats like open fields, hillsides, paddyfields and lightly wooded areas.

Behaviour

Feeds on insects.
