Central and South America:
Central America: Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama
South America: Colombia, Ecuador,
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 5 subspecies[1]:
- X. e. erythropygius:
- Highlands of southern Mexico (San Luis Potosí to Oaxaca and Guerrero)
- X. e. parvus:
- Highlands of southern Mexico (se Oaxaca, Chiapas) to north-central Nicaragua
- X. e. punctigula:
- Tropical south-eastern Nicaragua to central Panama (Veraguas)
- X. e. insolitus:
- X. e. aequatorialis:
Habitat
Lowland and montane humid forests, mostly evergreen.
Behaviour
Diet
Little known, but thought to consist of arthropods and invertebrates.
