Breeding Adult
- Sooty black
- White "spectacles"
- Red legs
- Black bill
- Blackish iris
Non-breeding Adult Similar to breeding adult but with white underparts. Sexes similar. Immature similar to non-breeding adult but underparts with uniformly gray-brown feather tips.
Distribution
Russia: Kamchatka and Sea of Okhotsk to Korea, Kuril Island and northern Japan.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Open sea.
Behaviour
Breeding
The clutch consists of 2 spotted eggs which are laid in a crevice. The young fledge after 6 weeks.
Diet
The diet consists mostly of fish.
