Identification

6·4–6·9 cm (2½-2¾ in); short, straight bill
Male

  • Rufous forehead and crest
  • Bill red with a black tip

Similar Species

Rufous-crested Coquette

Distribution

South America: found in the Andes of eastern Colombia to western Venezuela and northern Peru.

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Humid foothill forest observed at heights around 1500 m

Behaviour

Diet

There is little published information, but they are thought to eat nectar.
