Myiozetetes cayanensis

Identification

  • Broad white supercilium
  • Short stubby bill
  • Yellow underparts
  • White throat
  • Rufous margins on the wing feathers
  • Brown back

Distribution

Central and South America: found in Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Venezuela, French Guiana, Guyana, Suriname, and Brazil.

Taxonomy

Four subspecies are recognized:

  • M.c. hellmayri:
  • southwestern Costa Rica and Panama south to southwestern Ecuador (south to El Oro and western Loja) and east across northern Colombia to northwestern Venezuela (to the the Maracaibo Basin and the west slope of the Andes)
  • M.c. rufipennis:
  • Eastern Colombia to northern Venezuela and eastern Ecuador
  • M.c. cayanensis:
  • M.c. erythropterus:
  • South-East Brazil (eastern Minas Gerais to Rio de Janeiro)

Habitat

Moist lowland forests.

Behaviour

Catches insects by sallying out from perches, often over water or into open areas.
