Identification
Length: 35 - 40 cm Weight 450 - 650 g Red forehead and crown, fading to a brown-purple on the hindcrown. The area around the bill is yellow pink, and the cheeks and throat are blue-violet. The body has green plumage with dark scaling on the neck and mantle. The wings have red and black patches, and red markings on the tail, which is tipped with yellow. The upper bill is horn-coloured and pink at the base; it has an orange-brown iris and grey legs.
Distribution
Brazil: States border of Bahía and Espitito Santo to 300 meters of the Atlantic Ocean. Endangered

This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Humid lowland forest.
Behaviour
They roost and feed in the canopy of primary forest trees. During the breeding season, September to November, the birds live in isolated pairs, which establish and defend a nesting territory, usually a large cavity in an old tree.
Diet includes fruit, seeds, berries and buds.
