Certhiaxis mustelinus

Identification

14 cm (5½ in)
Bicolored, bright rufous above and white below. Black lores and bill.

Similar Species

Lacks yellow chin and gray supercilium of Yellow-chinned Spinetail.

Distribution

Brazil, Colombia, and Peru. Confined to the Amazon Basin and tributaries.

Taxonomy

Formerly spelled Certhiaxis mustelina.

Subspecies

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Marshes along rivers and swamps.

Behaviour

Breeding

Poorly known. Nest is a ball of thorny sticks, placed in low vegetation over water.

Diet

Primarily Arthropods. Gleans from small branches and foliage, usually close to the ground.

Vocalisation

Song is a short trill or rattle, rising and then falling. Common call a low dew.

Movement

Resident, but may evacuate seasonally flooded areas.
