Identification
Male is dark slaty-grey (wings and tail darker) with reddish eye and blue-grey bill. Female has brownish upperside greyish underside with some olive streaking, two buff wing bars, rufous rump and edging on tail, and a brownish eye.
Distribution
South-east Peru, western Bolivia and northern Argentina. East side of Andes in Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, and extreme southern Ecuador
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
Formerly treated conspecific with Jelski's Black Tyrant under the name Andean Tyrant.
Habitat
Montane forest and woodland where mostly found in lower growth patches.
Behaviour
Rarely joins mixed species flocks
