Psilopogon lineatus

Identification

25-30 cm (9¾-12 in)
Thick yellow bill, mostly dark brown head and breast with whitish streaks. Bronzed yellow orbital skin, whitish cheeks to throat and streaks in upper mantle.
Juvenile similar to adults.

Taxonomy

Sometimes placed in the genus Megalaima.

There are 2 subspecies[1]:

Habitat

Deciduous forest, coastal scrub, plantations

Behaviour

Breeding

Breeds Sept-May. Nests in excavated tree holes 3-12 m above the ground. Lays 2-4 white eggs.
Male territorial cry is very loud.

Diet

They have a very varied diet, mainly consisting of fruit, particularly figs. They will also eat bananas, flowers, nectar, insects, including termites, frogs, nestlings and probably eggs too.
