Distribution
Eastern Palearctic (Russia to Japan); winters to southern Asia, Greater Sundas and Philippines.
Vagrants regular in the British Isles (mostly Shetland) in the Autumn.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Subspecies hendersonii is not recognised by all authorities[2]
Habitat
Breeds in the taiga; swampy open marshes with shrubby vegetation and rank undergrowth.

A ground nester, they use a tussock to conceal the nest; usual clutch size is five.

Diet includes insects.
